NOTE: There are several oddities about this beautiful watch. One is the case signature, which is in a different format than normally seen during this time period. Another is the serial number, which would indicate that the watch dates to 1926; however, the style is not at all indicative of 1926, but rather late 1929 or 1930. The movement dates to 1929, which is appropriate for the style of the watch and matching bracelet. Finally, the case does not include the usual 1924 or 1927 patent date, which is seen in all 1920s models after 1925.
These differences could be explained by the fact that it is solid gold. Judging by the limited number of solid gold models seen today, it would appear that Bulova was more inclined toward the everyday, affordable styles. The solid gold cases may haven been "special orders" and may even have been sub-contracted to another case company, which would naturally not follow the same serial number sequence as Bulova's mainstream productions. Another example of a similar phenomenon can be seen in the 1929 solid 18k unknown model in my collection. Also, my 1925 yellow gold Banker lacks the patent date (not unusual for 1925, though), and has an odd serial number that does not make sense as a date code.
