NOTES:  I am tentatively identifying this model as the Major based on a process of elimination.  Five models are listed in G-S Catalog No. 43 as taking this crystal.  They are 1) Ambassador, 2) Commodore, 3) Major, 4) Montgomery, and 5) Webster.  The Ambassador, Commodore, and Montgomery are known models, leaving the Major and Webster.  Super sleuth Bob Butler just found an advertisement for the Webster (which, interestingly, has long been incorrectly identified elsewhere as the Oxford).  So, that leaves this model as the major--tentatively, until a confirming ad comes along to prove or disprove the supposition.  I also have this model with a black dial, also dated 1939.
